At least 1/2 of my new
clients arrive with the same lament:
I've lost my
web person and can't get my site updated.
In the past few years, I've
noticed that there are some fairly regular patterns that
cause owners to lose their web person (or
"webmaster," if you prefer).
The top three are (followed
by how CDMCSS.com eliminates these issues outright) are:
- Having a website
designed by a "friend"
The "friend"
might take on such a project as a novelty or to help you
out and create the site for "free." Over time,
they lose interest and moves on to other things. The
result: the website owner has to find another web person
(and risk the same thing in a few months/years).
- Using a template based
website service where you can "design and maintain
your own website."
Perhaps 1 out of 20 such
services go out of business unexpectedly. Others get
bought out by bigger fish. And usually (18-24 months in
my experience), website owners using such services
"hit the wall," meaning they discover that the
limitations of such services are actually restricting
their activities.
They "lose their web
person" (themselves) because their only option is
to get a conventional website created and usually, the
average website designer hasn't got a clue how to setup
the site to make it owner updateable.
- Get their website
created by a "professional agency."
Like template based
services - there is no guarantee they will be around
tomorrow or even 5 years from now. If they are the ones
doing website updates and they "go away," the
owner is left in a jam.
The
CDMCSS.com difference
I take a very simple
approach to how owners get updates made to sites I create:
The websites are created
in such a way that the owner can do the updates,
personally, and without third-party assistance.
No stack of software or
learning curve required, no need to "know
code" or any of the traditional ways websites are
updated apply.
How? Is an equally simple
question to answer. Go to the Page
Content Management System description and change a web
page online - right now.
Are the sites a lot more
expensive than a non-updateable site? Maybe. My sites
start at $400 (and up; it depends on what is needed).
Compared to the lost
revenue, damage to business credibility a site showing
obsolete information, and the cost of aspirin for the
headaches of trying to find a new web person, then dealing
with the same situation when they disappear - a
trip to the Contact page may
be one of the best investments a site owner can make.
